New Arizona law may impact motorcyclists in 2027

We made it through another scorching summer and now is the time to enjoy the outdoors and scenery across the state. Especially those that ride motorcycles along the scenic highways and towns in Arizona.

If that is you or someone you know, before you put on the helmet and gas up the tank, you may need to brush up on the Arizona motorcycle manual.

A new state law that will require motorcycle owners to have a motorcycle license or the endorsement on their driver license in order to renew the bike’s registration takes effect in 2027.

Arizona Revised Statute § 28-2014, updated last session, will require at least one of the registered owners of a motorcycle to have the motorcycle endorsement to legally operate a motorcycle on public roadways before the motorcycle registration can be renewed.

The new requirement goes into effect on January 1, 2027. If the registration is due after this law takes effect, and the owner is enrolled in a qualified motorcycle training program, a one-time 30-day temporary registration may be issued.

Motorcycles owned in a trust will need a trustee to be legally licensed to operate a motorcycle in Arizona in order to renew the registration.

This new law does not apply to exclusively off-road motorcycles or motorcycles owned by a business.

So keep the shiny side up, rubber side down and be sure you have the endorsement before you hit the open road.
