A digital message board on the highway encourages motorists to wear a seatbelt.

If you’re driving on Arizona highways this weekend, you may see some overhead message boards displaying a message encouraging drivers and their passengers to wear a seatbelt.

That’s because from May 19 through June 1, the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has partnered with local, county and state law enforcement agencies to step up traffic patrols to enforce Arizona’s seat belt and child safety seat laws as part of a national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

Wearing your seatbelt is the single most effective way to protect yourself and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of passenger vehicle occupants killed in 2023 were unrestrained based on known seatbelt usage.

We hope that these messages start conversations around safe driving and ultimately lead to all of us making better decisions behind the wheel. Keep yourself and your passengers safe and reduce the risk of serious injuries and fatalities by wearing a seatbelt.
