Sunset Road interchange construction

So far, ADOT’s project to rebuild and widen I-10 from Ina to Ruthrauff roads has mostly resulted in new and improved versions of what was already in place.

That’s meant rebuilding the interchange at Orange Grove Road and reconstructing all of I-10 from Ina to Ruthrauff roads.

Now we’re focusing on something entirely new: Extending Sunset Road eastward to create a new link between I-10 and River Road.

Our latest video, which you can see below, shows that progress. A new bridge is in place above the railroad tracks, as well another structure spanning the Rillito River just next to River Road.

Crews are still working on the exit and entrance ramps along I-10, along with the new section of Sunset Road itself.

The Sunset Road interchange is expected to open by spring 2026, when the overall project wraps up. The same goes for the Sunset Road extension. That extension, by the way, is being funded by Pima County but constructed by ADOT.
