Bridge girder placement another sign of progress on US 93 widening project

Construction occurs on a highway.

Two bridges under construction on US 93 north of Wikieup didn’t look much like bridges until recently, as they were little more than concrete piers jutting up from a dry wash.

That all changed rapidly in the past few weeks, as crews lifted 30 concrete girders in place to form the 132-foot-long horizontal portion of the bridge structures over Cane Springs Wash.

The work on the bridges is the latest sign of progress on ADOT’s $80.6 million project to transform 4 miles of US 93 into a divided highway north of Wikieup. The widening project recently reached the halfway point, with completion estimated in the first half of 2027.

The progress isn’t the only good news for drivers who are looking forward to another improved section of US 93 on the main route between Phoenix and Las Vegas. This bridgework and other widening activity is taking place with few lane restrictions and delays, as the highway’s new lanes and structures are being constructed alongside the existing roadway.

One of the new bridges will open to traffic in the first half of 2026, when new southbound lanes open in the area. Once both directions of traffic have been moved onto the new bridges, the existing US 93 structure will be demolished.

The bridges are at milepost 109, with the widening work taking place between mileposts 106-110.
