Reminder: Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 75th and 51st avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17.
- The eastbound on-ramps at Bell Road and Union Hills Drive also will be closed.
- The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 51st Avenue also will be closed.
- DETOUR: Drivers may consider using eastbound Bell Road or Union Hills Drive to reconnect with eastbound Loop 101 beyond the closure.
35th Avenue will be closed at Loop 101 from 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, to 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and again from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.
- Westbound Loop 101 also will be narrowed to one lane at 35th Avenue during the road closure hours Aug. 13-14.
- DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the east- and westbound frontage roads to navigate around the closure.
The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 51st Avenue and the westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 59th Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17.
The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 67th Avenue and the westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 75th Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18.
The northbound Interstate 17 on- and off-ramp at Pinnacle Peak Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.
- Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes during this time.

Upcoming closure

Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 51st and 27th avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24.
- The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at 75th, 67th and 59th avenues also will be closed.
- DETOUR: Drivers may consider using eastbound Union Hills Drive or Bell Road to connect with I-17, or access eastbound Loop 101 at 27th or 19th avenues.

Ongoing lane restrictions

The closure of east- and westbound Loop 101 high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes between 43rd and 51st avenues will continue to be closed through the end of August.
The eastbound Loop 101 frontage road is reduced to one lane between 37th and 35th avenues through late September.

Overview

The project is widening Loop 101 between 75th Avenue and I-17 by one general-purpose lane in each direction to improve traffic flow on Loop 101 and the cross streets. Other improvements include widening bridges, modifying interchange ramps and frontage roads in some locations, adding a third southbound left turn lane onto Loop 101 at 75th Avenue, improving the system interchange ramp between westbound Loop 101 and northbound I-17 and resurfacing the roadway.

This project is included in the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County and is funded through Prop 400, a countywide dedicated half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements approved by voters in 2004.

Project Elements

Adding one general purpose lane to the outside of Loop 101 in each direction between 75th Avenue and I-17.
Widening bridges at 51st, 35th and 31st avenues and constructing new retaining walls.
Modifying interchange ramps and frontage roads in some locations.
Interchange improvements at 75th Avenue to add a third southbound left turn lane onto eastbound Loop 101.
Adding a lane to the westbound Loop 101 ramp to northbound I-17.
Adding a new lane to northbound I-17 between Loop 101 and Pinnacle Peak road to accommodate the additional traffic lane from westbound Loop 101.
Adding or modifying noise walls in some locations where warranted.
Removing the worn asphalt and resurfacing the concrete pavement by diamond grinding.
Upgrading freeway and ramp lighting.
Modifying the existing freeway drainage system.
Replacing impacted landscaping.

What to Expect

Construction is expected to take approximately two-and-a-half years to complete.
Work will require lane restrictions and full closures on Loop 101, the interchange ramps and cross streets, and will occur primarily during overnight hours and weekends to minimize traffic impacts.
Long-term on- and off-ramp closures will be required (up to 60 days).
ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on the project web page.
Access to businesses and residences will be maintained.

Schedule

The project began in late September 2024 and is expected to take approximately two-and-a-half years to complete.
