Keep Your Reduced VLT: License Plate Options
Keep Your Reduced VLT: License Plate Options
If your alternative fuel vehicle was registered before Jan. 1, 2023, you may be in the retired Reduced Vehicle Registration program. Starting Sept. 26, 2025, your plate choice affects whether you keep your reduced VLT rate.
Option 1: Alternative Fuel Vehicle Plate
Choose this option to keep your reduced VLT benefits. You don't need an alternative fuel sticker with this option.

Option 2: Personalized plate (standard or specialty plate) AND an Alternative Fuel sticker.
You can personalize any Arizona plate and keep your reduced VLT if you also purchase an alternative fuel sticker. Keep your registration and sticker current, and you'll keep your reduced VLT rate.
Note: Choose a personalized plate WITHOUT the sticker, and you'll lose your reduced VLT permanently.

Option 3: Specialty plate (personalized or not) AND an Alternative Fuel sticker.
You can buy any specialty plate and keep your reduced VLT if you also purchase an alternative fuel sticker. Keep your registration and sticker current, and you'll keep your reduced VLT rate.
Note: Choose a specialty plate WITHOUT the sticker, and you'll lose your reduced VLT permanently.

Option 4: Standard Arizona plate (not personalized)
You can select a standard Arizona plate, with no personalization, but you will lose your reduced VLT benefit permanently. The alternative vehicle sticker is not valid with this plate option.
Note: If you choose this option, your vehicle leaves the reduced VLT program, and no longer qualifies. You won't be able to get your reduced VLT rate back.
