ADOT launches interactive crash data dashboards

Dashboards provide dynamic charts, tables

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation is making it easier for the public to visualize and filter yearly crash data with new interactive online dashboards.

The dashboards, available at azdot.gov/CrashFacts, are dynamic and provide data charts, crash mapping, and data tables that update as users apply filters and navigate across different dashboard pages.

“The Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Data dashboards makes crash data more accessible by providing users the ability to search for and narrow down specific crash data quickly with accompanying charts and graphs that adjust in real-time,” Saroja Devarakonda, ADOT safety analysis program manager, said. “These dashboards convert a static report into an interactive experience that users can tailor to their needs, which can help them better understand the factors contributing to crashes and how we can all make better decisions to improve driving safer.”

The dashboards modernize the presentation of annual crash data and allows users to more easily filter and review data. ADOT compiles crash reports annually from law enforcement agencies across the state and the information in these crash reports powers the dashboard.

Users can access individual dashboard pages that focus on emphasis areas — such as safety devices, impairment, and crash descriptions — at the top of the webpage and select quick filters that narrow down the crash severity (fatality, injury, no injury), and location (county, city and tribal agency). Clicking on an element of a chart or graph can apply a filter and offer more granular data.

A historical data dashboard that shows crash data trends over the past 20 years is also available at azdot.gov/CrashFacts.
