ADOT repairing SR 89A through Oak Creek Canyon as closure continues
Severe flooding undermined portions of roadway
SEDONA - Crews from the Arizona Department of Transportation have begun making repairs to flood-damaged sections of SR 89A in Oak Creek Canyon.
The highway was closed Sunday, Nov. 1, as heavy rainfall in the region caused Oak Creek to rise above flood stage, undermining portions of the roadway, exposing guardrail supports and causing other infrastructure damage.
ADOT crews continue to clear debris such as boulders, rocks, mud and fallen trees and are now engaged in the repairs needed to make the highway safe for travel. There is no estimated time for completion.
The highway remains closed between the Owenby Way roundabout in Sedona and Flagstaff, and travel between Sedona and Flagstaff is restricted to State Route 179 and Interstate 17.
All other state highways affected by recent flooding have been reopened for travel.
Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the AZ511 app (download for Apple or Android devices) or by calling 511.
