Beulah Boulevard closed overnights at I-40 for bridge improvement work
PHOENIX – Beulah Boulevard will close overnights at Interstate 40 in Flagstaff for the next two weeks while crews pour new bridge decks and remove support structures.
On Monday, Oct. 1, northbound Beulah Boulevard will close where the highway passes under Interstate 40 nightly from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Wednesday, Oct. 3, and again from Tuesday, Oct. 9, through Thursday, Oct. 11. Traffic heading north on Beulah Boulevard into Flagstaff will need to head south on Beulah to the JW Powell intersection with Interstate 17 and take the interstate north into town.
On Wednesday, Oct. 3, southbound Beulah Boulevard will close under I-40 nightly from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Oct. 5, and Thursday, Oct. 11, through Friday, Oct. 12. Southbound Beulah Boulevard will also close from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to Saturday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 12, to Saturday, Oct. 13. Drivers wanting to head south will need to take I-17 south to the JW Powell Boulevard exit and then go north on Beulah Boulevard.
The southbound I-17 ramp to eastbound I-40 will also close from 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, to allow crews to pave the eastbound I-40 bridge over I-17. While it’s closed, drivers can continue on I-17 south to the JW Powell exit and come around to I-17 north and take the I-40 east exit.
The $10 million project includes replacing the I-40 bridge decks in each direction over Beulah Boulevard, immediately west of I-17, as well as the westbound bridge deck over I-17. The eastbound I-40 bridge over I-17 will get a new concrete surface.
The project will also increase the cross slope of the roadway over the renovated bridges, helping drain water from the road surface. It also includes guardrail and paving work.
