New Allentown Bridge serves Houck area near New Mexico line

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation has completed a project that replaced the Allentown Bridge spanning Interstate 40 just west of the New Mexico line near the Navajo Nation community of Houck.

The $7.8 million project began in April 2025. Crews removed the old structure and replaced it with a 223-foot reinforced concrete beam and girder bridge serving the commercial and residential areas around it. ADOT also made roadway improvements at the bridge approach and departure to match new deck elevations and replaced the guardrails and barriers.

This project supports ADOT’s commitment to safety, to protecting Arizona’s investment in highway pavement and bridges, and to maintaining I-40 as a key corridor for commercial and personal travel.
