Bisbee Community Connectivity Master Plan
Bisbee Community Connectivity Master Plan
Project Description
Transportation Alternatives funding has been allocated from the Five-Year Transportation Construction Facilities Program to support the completion of the Bisbee Connected Community (BCC) feasibility study. This Study aims to explore an active transportation network encompassing approximately 27 miles of on- and off-road pathways, enhancing travel efficiency, safety, and mobility for vulnerable road users across all ages and abilities. The BCC Study will examine the implementation of separated shared-use paths and, where necessary, on-street facilities, ultimately creating a comprehensive street network for the City of Bisbee and the Naco townsite that incorporates both pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
This Connectivity Master Plan serves to enhance the previously established Bisbee Area Mobility Master Plan (BAMMP) which received approval from the Mayor and Council on September 5, 2023. In order to effectively implement the BAMMP, it is essential to conduct comprehensive public outreach, thorough alignment analysis, coordination with property owners, environmental studies, route prioritization and phasing, cost estimation, and preliminary design work. The Bisbee Connectivity Committee (BCC) should refine the proposed routes in the BAMMP to ensure optimal safety and mobility connections wherever feasible. Furthermore, this network will integrate with the Sun Corridor Trail and will also facilitate access to the Lavender Pit shared-use path (which is anticipated to be completed by September 2026).
Project Objectives
- Identify what locations the Shared Use Path (SUP) will best serve the needs of the community
- Explore how the path will integrate with the existing system
- Identify where future development is a constraint or opportunity
- Develop a reasonable cost for SUP segments
- Lay out recommended phasing and implementation plan to design and construct
