Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) nightly ramp closures scheduled Sept. 15-19
Upcoming ramp and freeway closures planned Sept. 26-29

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following closures as part of the Loop 202 widening project, between Loop 101 and Val Vista Drive:

The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue and off-ramp at McQueen Road will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., from Tuesday, Sept. 16, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 19.
- Note: The two right lanes on eastbound Loop 202 also will be closed between Arizona Avenue and McQueen Road during these ramp closures.
The following eastbound Loop 202 ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
- The on-ramp at Lindsay Road
- The off-ramps at Val Vista Drive, McQueen and Cooper roads
The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Price Road will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21.
The westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road and the off-ramp at Cooper Road will be closed nightly during the following times:
- 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20
- 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21
- 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23
- Note: The two right lanes on westbound Loop 202 also will be closed between Gilbert and Cooper roads during these ramp closures.

Long-term closure of eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) on-ramp at Alma School begins Sept. 22

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers of the following long-term ramp closure for reconstruction on the Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) widening project:

The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Alma School Road will be closed for approximately 60 days beginning 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22
- Detour: Drivers may consider using the eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Dobson Road or Arizona Avenue.

Upcoming Closures (Sept. 26-29)

North- and southbound Arizona Avenue at Loop 202 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

Westbound Loop 202 will be closed at the Arizona Avenue interchange from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, for bridge work.
- DETOUR: Drivers may consider using Pecos or Germann roads to Alma School Road to access westbound Loop 202.

LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES (Approximately 60 days):

Westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Alma School Road will be closed for approximately 60 days starting 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 for ramp reconstruction.

DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Dobson Road.

Westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Arizona Avenue will close at 11:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, for approximately 60 days starting for ramp reconstruction.

DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Alma School or McQueen roads.

Westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Price Road will close at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, for approximately 60 days starting for ramp reconstruction.

DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Dobson Road.

NOTE: Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation in collaboration with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) has initiated a project to widen and make other improvements to the Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) between Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and Val Vista Drive in the city of Chandler and town of Gilbert.

The purpose of this project is to improve traffic capacity on Loop 202 to address growing traffic demands in the southeast Valley and relieve traffic congestion on Loop 202 during the morning and evening peak travel periods. Maricopa County is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States, with the population expected to increase by nearly 30 percent between 2020 and 2040. Traffic volume projections indicate congestion will worsen in the future due to growth in the region.

Adding two general purpose lanes in each direction on Loop 202 from Loop 101 to Gilbert Road
Adding one general purpose lane in each direction from Gilbert Road to Val Vista Drive
Widening exit ramps from one to two lanes
Adding noise walls in some locations
Widening overpass bridges
Reconstructing the eastbound Arizona Avenue on-ramp and bridge
Removing the existing asphalt pavement surface to improve existing pavement conditions and the driving surface for vehicles
