Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a project to replace the Allentown Bridge over Interstate 40 near Houck. The bridge is located about eight miles west of New Mexico at milepost 351 on I-40. 

The project is expected to begin in April 2025 and be completed by the end of the year.

Project Elements

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing bridge. The work will include:

  • Removing and replacing the existing bridge in its entirety.
  • Removing, replacing and constructing guardrails and barriers.
  • Roadway improvements at the bridge approach and departure to match new deck elevations.

What to Expect During Construction

There will be restrictions and short-term closures of I-40 during construction. A detour will be established using the off- and on-ramps at Allentown Road when closures are in effect. Allentown Road across I-40 will be closed for several weeks while the new bridge deck is being built.

Schedules are subject to change because of weather or other unforeseen factors. Remember to slow down and use caution around construction workers and equipment.
