Overview

Project Cost: $6.5 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation has completed a pavement life extension project on Interstate 40 through the city of Holbrook (mileposts 283-290). The 7-mile-long project was completed in the summer of 2023.

 

Project Elements

The work consists of removing the existing top layer of pavement and replacing it with an asphalt-mix overlay, which is designed to protect the underlying pavement structure. The work also includes making spot pavement repairs prior to the placement of the overlay and other related work..

What to Expect During Construction

  • Drivers should plan for lane restrictions and reduced speed limits on I-40 as the pavement work is completed between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
  • A minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction throughout the project.
  • The traffic restrictions will be removed each day after work hours and during weekends.
  • No weekend work is anticipated at this time.

Schedules are subject to change because of weather or other unforeseen factors. Remember to slow down and use caution around construction workers and equipment.
