Overview

Project Cost: $3.9 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Navajo Nation, has started work on a bridge replacement project on the Coyote Wash Bridge over State Route 87. The bridge is located about 30 miles north of Winslow (milepost 375). Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The project limits will extend approximately a quarter-mile north of the bridge and about a half-mile south of the bridge along SR 87.

Project Elements

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing bridge. The work will include:

  • Removing and replacing the existing bridge superstructure.
  • Installing erosion prevention elements under the bridge
  • Replacing guardrails, paving bridge approaches, adding new pavement markings and other miscellaneous work.

What to Expect During Construction

The existing bridge will be reduced to only lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel during construction. This will enable drivers to continue to access the area while half of the bridge is demolished at a time. The new bridge will be constructed one-half at a time with drivers sharing the other lane. Traffic will be directed through the work zone by a temporary traffic signal.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time and watch for construction workers and equipment while traveling through the area.
