US 180: 24th West - US 191 Pavement Rehabilitation
US 180: 24th West - US 191 Pavement Rehabilitation
Overview
Project cost: $6.2 million
The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a pavement rehabilitation project along US 180, locally known as Cleveland Street, and US 191, locally known as Commercial Street, in the City of St. Johns. The 2-mile-long project is located between 24th West Street and the Little Colorado River overpass east of Water Street.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and be completed by the fall.
Project Elements
The purpose of this project is to replace the worn pavement with new asphalt, creating a smooth driving surface for motorists. The project will also enhance pedestrian safety with the installation of new sidewalks and ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps. The work will include:
- Removing and replacing the pavement along 2 miles of US 180 and a quarter mile of US 191 (milepost 367-369 and milepost 315).
- Installing new sidewalks, ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, and curb and gutter.
- Replacing guardrails
- Improving drainage facilities
- Installing new pavement markings and other related work.
What to Expect During Construction
US 180 (Cleveland Street) will be reduced to one lane in each direction during construction. Drivers will need to slow down and merge over safely when approaching the work zone.
US 191 (Commercial Street) will be reduced to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel at the Little Colorado River Bridge during construction. Drivers will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car.
Residential and business access will be maintained during construction.
Drivers should plan for frequent stops when approaching and traveling through the work zone. Also, drivers should plan for extra travel time and watch for construction workers and equipment while traveling through the area.
