Project Elements
The purpose of this project is to replace the existing bridges with new structures that will allow the highway to continue to serve drivers. The work will include:
- Removing the existing bridges and constructing a new concrete box culvert over Five Mile Wash (milepost 309) and a new bridge at the Little Colorado River (milepost 310).
- Roadway improvements at the bridge approach and departure to match new deck elevations.
- Replacing pavement markings, signing, guardrail and other related work.
What to Expect During Construction
There will be shoulder and lane restrictions along US 180 during construction. At Five Mile Wash, US 180 will be reduced to one lane only with alternating east- and westbound traffic that will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal. One lane in each direction will be maintained along US 180 at the Little Colorado River.
Drivers will need to slow down and expect frequent stops when approaching the work zone.
