The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare for delays along US 60 between Show Low and Springerville in the White Mountains area as a pavement project resumes work between State Route 61 and Wildcat Creek Thursday, May 28, after a winter hiatus.
Drivers should expect the following restrictions from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays:
- US 60 will be reduced to one lane only in 3-mile segments with alternating east- and westbound travel between SR 61 and Wildcat Creek (mileposts 353-369).
- Drivers will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car.
- A 12-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.
- Drivers need to be prepared to make frequent stops when approaching and driving through the work zone and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.
- Restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours; however, reduced speed limits will remain in effect.
- No work is planned for weekends or state holidays.
The restrictions are needed so crews can apply a chip seal pavement treatment to the roadway, which should be completed by mid-June.
Crews will return approximately 30 days later to permanently stripe the new section of road, completing the project.
