Overview

Project Cost: $9.5 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a pavement rehabilitation project along US 60 between Show Low and Springerville. The 16-mile-long project is between State Route 61 and Wildcat Creek (mileposts 353-369). Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025 and be completed by the fall.

Project Elements

The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the pavement and create a smooth driving surface for motorists. The work will include: 

  • Removing and replacing the top layer of pavement along the highway. 

  • Building up the shoulders.

  • Replacing the existing guardrail.

  • Improving drainage.

  • Other related work. 

What to Expect During Construction

US 60 will be reduced to one lane only in segments no longer than 3 miles with alternating east- and westbound travel during construction. Vehicles will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car. Work will take place Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. No work is planned on weekends or holidays. Restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time and watch for construction workers and equipment while traveling through the area.
