Project Elements
The purpose of these projects is to extend the life of the roadway and improve the riding surface for drivers. The work includes:
-
Remove and replace the existing top layer of pavement on I-40 between the Arizona-California state line and the junction with SR 95 (mileposts 0 - 8).
-
In addition to the mainline, roadway shoulders, ramps and a cross road will receive the new pavement.
-
Remove and replace a bridge deck, bridge approach slabs and bridge barrier.
-
Other related work.
What to expect during construction
Lane restrictions will be limited to overnight hours. No restrictions are anticipated during daytime hours, weekends or state holidays. Business access will be maintained during construction, although there will be brief restrictions when work crosses in front of businesses.
The restrictions include:
-
Intermittent overnight lane restrictions on east- and westbound I-40 from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. from Sunday evenings through Friday mornings.
-
I-40 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during overnight paving work.
-
There will be times during the project when extended lane restrictions will be required in each direction. ADOT will provide advance notice of the extended lane restrictions.
-
Motorists should plan for extra travel time and be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes.
-
The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
ADOT reminds drivers to proceed slowly through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.
