Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a pavement preservation project along an 8 mile section of eastbound Interstate 40, east of the City of Kingman. The project area is located between the I-40/US 93 traffic junction and Silver Springs Road (mileposts 72–80).
Project Elements
The purpose of this project is to replace the worn pavement, which will create a smoother-riding roadway for drivers. The work will include:
- Removing the existing pavement on the eastbound lanes only and replacing it with new pavement.
- Removing and installing new guardrail and embankment curb on the eastbound lanes.
- Building up roadway shoulders, improving drainage and making bridge repairs on the eastbound lanes.
- Repairing the Big Sandy Wash bridge joints in the westbound direction.
- Lane striping, seeding and other related work.
What to expect during construction
- Day and nighttime lane restrictions.
- Nighttime interchange ramp closures.
- Delays up to 15 minutes.
- Reduced speed limit in the work zone.
- Construction-related noise.
ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment while lane restrictions are in place.
Project Schedule
Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026 and be completed by the end of the year. More information on the project schedule will be posted prior to work starting.
