Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Town of Chino Valley, has initiated a sidewalk and driveway improvement project along SR 89, roughly between Telephone Road and Road 1S, in Chino Valley (mileposts 327-328). Work consists of improving existing sidewalks, sidewalk ramps, curbs, curb/gutter and driveways to comply with federal Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requirements.

  • Construct ADA-compliant sidewalks and sidewalk ramps.
  • Reconstruct curbs, curb/gutter and driveways.
  • Install limited pavement markings and other related work.

Project Schedule

Work is scheduled to begin mid-August 2026 and will be completed in early fall 2026.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.

What To Expect

Construction work is scheduled during daytime hours, depending on scheduled activities.
Lane restrictions will be in place from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Throughout construction, business driveway access and a minimum of one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.

ADOT advises drivers to plan for possible delays while the work is underway. Use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time and watch for construction workers and equipment while traveling through the area. ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on this project webpage.

Project Elements

  • Removing and replacing the existing bridge.
  • Replacing bridge joints and seals, sealing bridge decks, and installing new embankment curb and drainage features.
  • Replacing existing guardrail and guardrail end terminals, and installing pipe and pipe lining.
  • Restriping lane markings, installing new signage and other related work.

Project Schedule

Work is scheduled to begin summer 2026 and be completed summer 2027, pending weather conditions.

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.

What To Expect During Construction

  • Day- and nighttime lane restrictions throughout construction.
  • Limited, short-term lane closures, with one lane open in each direction.
  • Bridge closures for deck work with one lane only of alternating west- and eastbound traffic with flaggers.
  • Motorists should be prepared for delays when work is underway.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the lane restrictions are in place.
