SR 89 Northbound Passing Lane

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a new project to construct a new northbound passing lane on State Route 89, north of  Paulden in Yavapai County (mileposts 354-355).

• Widening roadway mainline and shoulder.

• Installing rumble strips

• New signage and pavement markings.

Project Schedule

Work is scheduled to begin summer 2026 and be completed summer 2027, pending weather conditions.

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.

What To Expect During Construction

• Day- and nighttime lane restrictions throughout construction.
• Limited, short-term lane closures, with one lane open in each direction.
• Bridge closures for deck work with one lane only of alternating west- and eastbound traffic with flaggers.
• Motorists should be prepared for delays when work is underway.
• The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the lane restrictions are in place.
