UPDATE: Plan for an extended closure of the US 191/Luzena Bridge west of Bowie beginning June 22

This alert updates the start date for the bridge closure and adds I-10 lane restrictions

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers traveling on Interstate 10 between Willcox and Bowie (milepost 345-357) to plan ahead for the following bridge closure and lane restrictions:

  • UPDATED: The US 191/Luzena Bridge on Page Ranch Road (milepost 356) will be fully closed beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, June 22, for approximately one month.
    • Detour: East- and westbound I-10 traffic may use the on- and off-ramps at milepost 352 to access I-10.
  • NEW: East- and westbound I-10 at the Monk Draw Bridges (milepost 355) will be reduced to one travel lane beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 23.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation is conducting a pavement rehabilitation project on east- and westbound Interstate 10 located between Willcox and Bowie (mileposts 345 to 357), to improve the roadway pavement condition.

Key Elements

  • Replace existing pavement with new asphalt
  • Repair existing bridge decks and concrete box culverts
  • Replace guardrails
  • Complete new pavement markings and other related work

Project Schedule

Construction began in March and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen situations.

What to Expect

  • Lane restrictions and speed reductions in the work zone are expected.
  • One lane of travel in each direction will be maintained throughout the project.
  • Temporary ramp closures during milling and paving.
  • Construction work hours are tentatively scheduled from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the potential for occasional overnight work.

Drivers should be prepared to slow down when approaching the work zone, expect delays and allow for extra time when traveling through the area.
