State Route 79 Passing Lane Project: Milepost 140 to 148
Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation is constructing passing lanes on north- and southbound State Route 79, north of Florence (milepost 140 to 148) in Pinal County.
A northbound passing lane is being added between mileposts 140.45-140.95 and between mileposts 145.80-146.20. A southbound passing lane is being added between mileposts 143.65-144 and between mileposts 147.38-147.75.
Drainage and guardrail improvements, new pavement markings and other related work will also be completed.
Project Elements
- Construct passing lanes along both sides of the highway
- Add paved shoulders along new passing lanes
- Pave, spot repair, or mill and replace pavement, as needed
- Install pavement marking and striping
- Remove and replace guardrail and end treatments
What to Expect
Drivers on SR 79 may experience shoulder closures, lane closures, flagging operations, and/or traffic restrictions at different times throughout the project. ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on the project traffic alert web page.
Project Schedule
Construction on this project began on July 6, 2026. Crews will work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to noon on Fridays. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen situations.
