Paving operations start May 3

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers traveling in Globe to expect the following restrictions on US 60, between Santee Street and US 70 (mileposts 250-252), for milling and paving operations:

  • US 60 east- and westbound lane restrictions nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Sunday, May 3.
    • Temporary driveway restrictions will be in place when heavy equipment is directly in front of businesses or residences.
    • Law enforcement officers will be on-site and detours will be in place when crews are working at intersections.
  • One travel lane will be maintained in each direction.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph in the work zone.
  • Restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation is conducting a pavement rehabilitation project on US 60 between Santee Street (milepost 250) and US 70 (milepost 252) in Globe.

The work will consist of milling (removing) the old asphalt and repaving with new asphalt. Sidewalk, curb and gutter, guardrail and bridge improvements and other related work will also be completed. This project will improve the roadway pavement condition and update safety elements to current standards.

  • Replace existing asphalt with new asphalt
  • Sidewalk, curb, gutter and guardrail improvements
  • Improve the condition of the existing bridge decks
  • Complete new pavement markings

Project Schedule

Construction on this project began in late August 2025. Crews will work nightly from approximately 8 p.m. to 6 a.m Sunday night through Friday morning. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2026.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

Pedestrians should anticipate sidewalk restrictions in the work zone and motorists should anticipate the following restrictions:

  • Intermittent daytime lane restrictions and speed reductions in the work zone for sidewalk, curb and other improvements.
  • Nighttime lane restrictions and speed reductions for milling and paving from 8 p.m. Sunday night through 6 a.m. Friday morning are anticipated to begin early 2026.
  • Temporary closures to driveways and street intersections during milling and paving operations.
