US 70: Yellowjacket Road Passing Lane Project
Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation anticipates beginning a project to add a passing lane on westbound US 70 between mileposts 288 and 289 within the San Carlos Apache Tribe community late July 2025.
The project just west of Bylas will provide a 1-mile passing lane for faster moving westbound traffic to overtake slower moving vehicles. Drainage improvements and other general maintenance work will also be completed within the project limits.
Project Elements
- Construct a new passing lane on westbound US 70 between milepost 288 and 289
- Drainage and guardrail improvements
- Complete new pavement markings and install signage
Project Schedule
Construction on this project is scheduled to begin late July 2025 with project completion planned for December 2025. Crews will work Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
Motorists should anticipate the following restrictions:
- Lane restrictions and speed reductions in the work zone are expected.
- A flagging operation will be utilized to assist drivers through the work zone. Drivers should be prepared to stop when approaching and traveling through the flagging operation.
- Drivers should expect delays and allow for extra time when traveling through the area.
