US 70: Yellowjacket Road Passing Lane Project

Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation recently completed a passing lane on westbound US 70 between mileposts 288 and 289 within the San Carlos Apache Tribe community.
The project just west of Bylas provides a 1-mile passing lane for faster moving westbound traffic to overtake slower moving vehicles. Drainage improvements and other general maintenance work were also completed within the project limits.
Project Elements
- Construct a new passing lane on westbound US 70 between milepost 288 and 289
- Drainage and guardrail improvements
- Complete new pavement markings and install signage
Project Schedule
Construction on this project began late July 2025 and was completed in June 2026.
