Plan for alternating lane restrictions and ramp closures on I-10 in Quartzsite beginning July 28

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for lane restrictions and ramp closures on east- and westbound Interstate 10 in Quartzsite.

The following lane closures will occur beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 28, and ending 6 a.m. Monday, July 29.: 

  • Quartzite Boulevard will be closed in both directions between Main Street and Kuehn Avenue. Detour: Eastbound I-10 traffic may detour east to Riggles Avenue (Exit 19). Westbound I-10 traffic should exit at Riggles Avenue, or may detour to Dome Rock Road (Exit 15) and turn around. Local traffic may detour on Main Street or Kuehn Street to Riggles Avenue.

The following ramp closures will occur for paving and guardrail work.: 

  • Eastbound I-10 Riggles Avenue off-ramp (Exit 19) will be closed from 6 p.m. Monday, July 29, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 30. Detour: Traffic should exit at Quartzsite Boulevard (Exit 17). 
  • Eastbound I-10 on-ramp (Exit 19) will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30 to 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1. Detour: Traffic may detour east on Kuehn or Main Streets to Quartzsite Boulevard (Exit 17).
  • Westbound I-10 Riggles off-ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 to 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2. Detour: Traffic may detour west on I-10 to Quartzsite Boulevard (Exit 17). 
  • Westbound I-10 Riggles on-ramp will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, July 29, and then resume Wednesday, July 31 through Friday, Aug. 2. Detour: Traffic may detour west on Main or Kuehn Streets to Quartzsite Boulevard (Exit 17).

Drivers should plan for delays, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are repairing the pavement on Interstate 10 between Dome Rock Road (milepost 11.70) and Scaddan Wash (milepost 24), passing through the town of Quartzsite. The work consists of removing the existing pavement surface and replacing it with new asphalt concrete.

Project Elements 

  • Milling the existing pavement and replacing it with new pavement 
  • Replacing guardrail and guardrail end terminals
  • Replacing barbed wire fencing
  • Constructing bridge barrier transitions
  • Installing pipe liners
  • Replacing pavement markings, signage and lighting

 

Project Schedule

The project is scheduled to begin late summer 2023 with completion anticipated in summer 2024. Schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen situations. 

 

What to Expect 

To minimize traffic impacts, night work is scheduled to occur from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays. On occasion some daytime work will be required.

Drivers are asked to use caution, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel and equipment.
