Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for east- and westbound lane restrictions and driveway closures along State Route 72 through March 26 for chip seal application.

The following lane restrictions will continue from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Thursday, March 19, and then resume Monday, March 23, and end Thursday, March 26:

East- and westbound SR 72 will be reduced to one lane between mileposts 20 and 30 with alternating traffic control via a flagging operation.
- Note: Crews are tentatively scheduled to close driveways and turnouts adjacent to SR 72 for approximately 45 minutes to an hour to allow for chip seal curing.
A 10-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph.

Delays are likely, so allow extra travel time. Proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction and law enforcement personnel and equipment.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation began a project in August 2025 to repair the pavement on State Route 72 between milepost 20 and milepost 30 in Bouse.

Project Elements

Milling and replacing the existing pavement with new pavement
Replacing guardrail and guardrail end terminals
Installing new fence and pipe end sections
Installing new ford walls
Replacing signage, pavement markings and other related work
