Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for alternating lane restrictions on State Route 85 near Gila Bend Thursday, Sept. 26.

The following restrictions will occur from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. 

  • North- and southbound SR 85 between milepost 1 and 3 will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic control via flaggers. Note: Motorists should be prepared to stop and obey flaggers to move through the workzone. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph within the flagging operation zone.
  • A 16-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph. 

Crews are scheduled to install a temporary barrier wall.

Drivers should plan for delays, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel.

Project Schedule

The project began September 2024 and is anticipated to be complete spring 2025. ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on the project traffic alert web page.
