PHOENIX – Want to avoid lines at MVD offices? Chances are good that you can take care of business online instead.

According to data collected by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division, 51 percent of the transactions that happen in MVD offices every business day could be done online instead. These range from very common transactions such as renewing a vehicle registration or replacing a driver license/identification card to smaller but still important things such as getting a decal for an off-road vehicle or a customer refund.

“Imagine if the MVD offices had 51 percent fewer transactions to handle,” Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen said. “That would mean fewer people who need to make a trip to get services that are just a click away on a computer or smartphone, and it would reduce wait times for those who need to do business in the offices.”

Including those listed above, there are many MVD services that can be easily done through ServiceArizona.com, such as address and email changes, ordering a personalized or specialty license plate, voter registration, obtaining a copy of your motor vehicle record, renewing a disability placard, insurance verification, sold notices and many more. For a complete list, please go to ServiceArizona.com.

“People are a lot more comfortable using the web for all kinds of transactions that just weren’t done years ago,” Jorgensen added. “MVD is ahead of the curve online, and we welcome more Arizonans to check out ServiceArizona.com to see if they can get their needs handled there because it’s increasingly likely they can.”

Glendale City Court is the newest addition to the growing roster of kiosks available to Arizonans doing business with the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division.

Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers was on hand Thursday to help open the latest location in MVD’s ongoing effort to improve customer experience by making services available in more public spaces like city courts.

Glendale joins El Mirage, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise and Tucson as court kiosk locations in addition to those located in MVD offices statewide.

“Our No. 1 goal is to get people out of the line and safely on the road, and putting kiosks in city courts helps us reach that objective,” said MVD Director Eric Jorgensen. “All of us at the Motor Vehicle Division are working hard to make our services as widely available as possible and ensuring that customers have more options, whether online, at a kiosk or in person.”

“We are excited about the partnership between Glendale City Court and ADOT because not only will it aid customers of the court, but it will also provide additional services to all Glendale residents, saving time and improving efficiencies,” said Presiding City Court Judge Elizabeth Finn.

Customers can use kiosks to quickly and conveniently conduct many MVD transactions, including renewing a vehicle registration, obtaining a duplicate driver license/identification card, updating an address, making changes to voter registration, obtaining a copy of a motor vehicle record and getting a disability placard.

“We have great local government partners that share our desire to constantly improve our customers’ experience, and we’re grateful to Mayor Weiers, Judge Finn and the city of Glendale for their support,” Jorgensen added.

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division continues to expand its reach with two more courthouses in Glendale and Pima County receiving ServiceArizona kiosks. These kiosks make it easier for Arizonans to conduct business without visiting an MVD office.

The kiosks, which have the same functionality as the ServiceArizona.com website, offer more than 20 motor vehicle services such as accessing a driving record and renewing vehicle registrations. Most kiosks, including these latest ones, can print vehicle registrations and plate tabs for registration renewals.

Glendale and Pima County are the sixth and seventh courthouses to receive ServiceArizona kiosks in the past 15 months, following Surprise, Scottsdale, El Mirage, Paradise Valley and Phoenix. There also are kiosks in 23 MVD offices around the state, with plans to roll out more over time.

“Installing ServiceArizona kiosks at community centers like courthouses makes a lot of sense,” said Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen. “Our goal is for people to easily access the motor vehicle services they need wherever they are.”

Other motor vehicle services available through ServiceArizona.com and kiosks include ordering duplicate a driver license or ID card and ordering specialty license plates.

MVD looks for ways to get Arizonans out of line and safely on the road

PHOENIX – In the not-so-distant past, someone retaking a road test at an Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division office had to stand in line – not to retake the test but to re-verify the application, a process that required spending several minutes at a window after taking a number and waiting to be called.

Today, that returning individual will retake the test first. Once he or she passes, a customer service representative will then process the rest of the application.

The change, which saves time for the test-taker as well as other waiting customers, is just one of the ways MVD is innovating to achieve its strategic vision of getting customers out of line and safely on the road.

“We’re continually looking to see where we can save time or even a visit to an office,” ADOT Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen said. “’Out of line and safely on the road’ is the way we’re doing business to benefit the residents of this state.”

Jorgensen, who became MVD director in March 2015, said there are several reasons behind the push to streamline processes and create more value for customers, starting with a philosophy his father shared.

“He would tell us, ‘If you see something that needs to be done, do it,’” Jorgensen said. “That saying has stuck with me, and I use it every day.”

He shares that philosophy with employees, noting that suggestions and feedback from those working at MVD offices have driven process improvements.

Another philosophy that drives Jorgensen is “a good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.”

“It’s important to build momentum. Sometimes we have to build the race car while in the race,” Jorgensen said. “We have identified a lot of projects at MVD that will help us build that momentum and carry us to greater things.”

MVD’s vision is part of an agency-wide commitment to continuous improvement that involves every aspect of ADOT operations.

For MVD, finding new ways to leverage technology is another way to get customers out of line. That starts with expanding what can be done through ServiceArizona.com. The website and the 43 ServiceArizona kiosks at MVD offices and courthouses around Arizona offer more than 20 motor vehicle services such as vehicle registration renewal and ordering replacement driver licenses and specialty license plates, with more to come.

ServiceArizona initiatives include rolling out online appointment scheduling for all MVD offices. That’s already happening on a smaller scale for those wishing to convert driver licenses to the new Voluntary Travel ID at select MVD offices.

“We live in a time where technology allows people to conduct a lot of business anytime and anywhere,” Jorgensen said. “We want to do the same with the MVD and reduce or even eliminate the need to physically come into an office.”

An innovative approach is allowing MVD to modernize its computer system over the next few years through a partnership with IBM, which maintains ServiceArizona.com. A portion of all sales through ServiceArizona.com are going toward computer system improvements that will make motor vehicle services more accessible and efficient.

MVD also continues expanding options and convenience for customers through Authorized Third Party providers, with 165 businesses statewide providing services including a growing number offering driver licenses.

Ultimately, getting customers out of line and safely on the road is about helping people get what they need from the MVD in a timely and efficient way.

“Like most people who become public servants, MVD employees ‒ myself included ‒ want to help others, make things better and be part of a solution,” Jorgensen said. “It’s happening here at the MVD. We’re making a difference every day.”

PHOENIX – ServiceArizona kiosks installed at courthouses in El Mirage and Paradise Valley are making it easier for Arizonans to conduct business with the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division without visiting an MVD office.

The kiosks, which offer the same functionality as the ServiceArizona.com website, allow customers to conduct more than 20 motor vehicle services such as accessing a driving record and renewing vehicle registrations. Most kiosks allow customers to print vehicle registrations and plate tabs for renewals.

Courthouses in Surprise and Scottsdale received kiosks last year, and the Phoenix Municipal Courthouse received two kiosks in February. There are 37 kiosks in 23 MVD offices around the state, with plans to roll out more over time.

It’s all part of an MVD initiative to provide residents with more access to motor vehicle services outside of an office.

“We want to make it easier for people to access MVD services,” said Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen. “Installing ServiceArizona kiosks in city courthouses helps us to provide those services where people need them.”

Other motor vehicle services available through ServiceArizona.com and kiosks include ordering a duplicate driver license or ID card and ordering specialty license plates.

The new kiosks are located at:

  • El Mirage City Court: 14010 N. El Mirage Road
  • Paradise Valley Municipal Court: 6517 E. Lincoln Drive

Thousands of motorists log on to ServiceArizona.com each day to quickly and easily complete a number of MVD-related transactions.

On the day that ServiceArizona first launched – Nov. 13, 1997, for all you ADOT history buffs – there was only one Internet-savvy customer who used the website to renew a vehicle registration online.

Now, more than 18 years later, thousands of motorists log on every single day to quickly and easily complete a number of MVD-related transactions.

To give you an idea of just how popular the site has become, we dug into some stats and can tell you that out of 3.7 million vehicle registration renewals that were completed in Arizona during 2015, a whopping 60.2 percent of them – roughly 2.2 million – were handled online through ServiceArizona.com.

That’s twice as many as 10 years ago when the number of online renewals was almost 1.1 million.

An impressive increase … but why are we telling you all this?

We want to reach out to those of you who aren’t using ServiceArizona yet – those who may not know about the site or those who might assume it’s difficult to use (it’s totally not). We want to let you know that the site offers you the ability to conduct a number of transactions without ever having to visit an MVD office (that means no standing in line!). Most importantly, we want to tell you what so many already know, that ServiceArizona is fast, easy and secure.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. Here are a couple bits of feedback provided by ServiceArizona customers...

“Being military, ServiceArizona is a wonderful tool. It makes being stationed away from my home state a breeze when maintaining my vehicle and driver information.”

“AWESOME online tool to renew my car registration!! Fast, convenient, secure, and all online. I love it!”

“The online service was fast, easy, and very convenient. I was able to get what I needed on my lunch break in minutes. I will definitely use the online service in the future.”

One more thing about ServiceArizona … we’re always looking to add more options while improving on the services already provided. An example of that is a new calendar reminder feature now available to customers who complete a registration renewal online. The free calendar reminder allows you to immediately request that a reminder be placed on your electronic calendar(s) to coincide with your next renewal due date. This is in addition to, and does not replace the email or U.S. mail renewal notice you already receive.

“At MVD, our vision is to get Arizonans out of the line and safely on the road,” Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen said. “ServiceArizona.com makes these important transactions more convenient for Arizonans to conduct.”

So, do you think you’re ready to give the site a try? Visit ServiceArizona.com to get started.

PHOENIX – By expanding the use of technology and third-party options, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division is making it ever easier for motorists to renew vehicle registrations, apply for driver licenses and more without visiting MVD offices.

Numbers for 2015 tell the story:

4.4 million: That’s the number of transactions by residents processed last year through ServiceArizona.com. That’s an increase from 4.2 million in 2014. This past year, 60 percent of all vehicle registration renewals were done through ServiceArizona. In addition, 3.3 million transactions were processed through ServiceArizona.com by businesses like car dealerships, bringing the total to 7.7 million transactions. ServiceArizona is accessible through desktops, laptops and mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

4 million: That’s the number of 2015 transactions processed by Authorized Third Party businesses conveniently located around the state. It’s an increase from 3.8 million in 2014.

By comparison, Motor Vehicle Division offices, which typically handle more complex transactions, processed 3.1 million in 2015.

Another notable number: 22. That’s how many Authorized Third Party businesses offer assistance with driver licenses and identification cards in addition to the vehicle title and registration available at most authorized businesses. That’s an increase from seven such businesses in 2014. The Motor Vehicle Division aims to continue to increase that number.

Offering more options to customers is among the ways the Motor Vehicle Division is improving service and meeting Governor Doug Ducey’s call for innovation and efficiency in state government.

“At MVD, our vision is to get Arizona ‘out of the line and safely on the road.’  Our private industry partners and online service options through ServiceArizona.com make these important transactions more convenient for Arizonans to conduct,” Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen said.

Other alternatives include 39 ServiceArizona kiosks located in many Motor Vehicle Division offices and a couple of city courthouses. These kiosks offer the same functionality as the ServiceArizona website.

For more information, visit ServiceArizona.com.

A list of Authorized Third Party businesses and MVD offices can be found at azdot.gov/mvdlocations.

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division is placing more ServiceArizona kiosks at offices around the state to make it easier and faster for Arizonans to conduct motor vehicle transactions.

Motor Vehicle Division offices in Flagstaff, Cottonwood and Bullhead City recently received kiosks as part of an expansion in rural areas, and new kiosks installed at municipal courthouses in Surprise and Scottsdale earlier this year are to be followed with kiosks at even more courthouses.

The kiosks provide the same functionality and services motorists can get through the ServiceArizona website at ServiceArizona.com via computer or smartphone, including vehicle registration renewal, address changes and ordering specialty plates. In all, there are 39 kiosks around the state.

“MVD is driven to make it more convenient for Arizonans to conduct these vital transactions, whether it be from their computer, smartphone, a third-party provider or kiosks conveniently located around the state,” Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen said.

In a Motor Vehicle Division office, a customer can sidestep the line and go right to a kiosk to conduct more than 20 different motor vehicle transactions. Collectively, the three new kiosks in Flagstaff, Cottonwood and Bullhead City average between 35 and 95 vehicle registration renewals a week.

Other motor vehicle services available through ServiceArizona.com and kiosks include ordering duplicate a driver license or ID card and obtaining your motor vehicle record.

PHOENIX – Many motor vehicle services can be performed online nowadays. Unfortunately, scam artists, misrepresenting themselves as official motor vehicle division entities, are using the Internet to take a customer’s money and personal information.

The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division wants to alert customers that there are fraudulent websites falsely offering motor vehicle services such as Arizona driver licenses, IDs, and vehicle titles and registration. The fraudulent websites appear in searches with keywords such as MVD or DMV.

ServiceArizona.com is the only authorized website for all Arizona MVD transactions. Customers can use ServiceArizona.com to conduct many routine motor vehicle transactions, such as applying for a duplicate driver license or driver license reinstatement, renewing a vehicle registration and purchasing a specialty or personalized license plate.

Currently, a person cannot obtain a driver license online. To do so a customer must visit a local MVD or Authorized Third Party office.

Additionally, ADOT does not offer MVD services through phone solicitations, nor does it endorse or advertise for online businesses claiming to provide MVD services.

There are, however, legitimate Authorized Third Party businesses that are licensed and authorized to perform MVD transactions in person. A list of Authorized Third Party businesses can be found at azdot.gov/mvdlocations.

ADOT’s goal is to prevent its customers from becoming victims of fraud or identity theft. ADOT also wants customers to be aware of unauthorized sites that may offer MVD services at an extra cost. The only authorized ways to conduct Arizona driver license or motor vehicle services are either in person at any ADOT MVD or Authorized Third Party office, online through ServiceArizona.com or by standard mail.

For more information about MVD services, please visit azdot.gov/mvd.
