Advancing plans to support adoption of electric vehicles, the Arizona Department of Transportation is seeking bids for private entities to build or upgrade electric vehicle charging stations along interstate highways.

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation is again asking the public to name its snowplows. 

Back for a second year, ADOT’s Name-A-Snowplow Contest gives Arizonans the opportunity to submit creative names for three of the 200 snowplows in ADOT’s fleet at azdot.gov/NameAPlow.

PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan ahead and expect to use detours as southbound State Route 143 will be closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and I-10 from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 4 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, for a traffic shift.

The interim plan calls for removing boulders, clearing culverts, stabilizing rock faces and making other repairs needed to safely reopen the highway for high-clearance or four-wheel drive vehicles.

ADOT will hold a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to provide information, gather comments and answer questions about designs to improve the Interstate 10 interchange at Jackrabbit Trail in the Buckeye area. Learn more in this news release.

When looking for a new-to-you vehicle, it is important to know its history. Pay close attention to a vehicle’s condition and title status, especially in private sales. If a vehicle is flood-damaged, the title should say “salvage” or “flood damage.”

Drivers traveling along Interstate 17 during the overnight hours need to be aware of rolling closures in both directions in the Black Canyon City area starting tonight at midnight. 

A section of State Route 89A north of uptown Sedona is open to traffic again following nearly two weeks of rockfall mitigation work on a canyon wall above the highway. ADOT and its contractor worked to safely reopen SR 89A on Friday morning (Dec. 15). More in this ADOT news release.

These projects, made possible by a commitment of $90.5 million, have ended for this year but will continue when warm weather returns in 2024. Many of the projects were in higher elevations where precipitation and freeze-thaw cycles damaged aging pavement.

The safety project, which also will include 8-foot-high fencing, is planned along 8.4 miles of I-17 between the Munds Park traffic interchange, about 25 miles south of Flagstaff, and the Kelly Canyon traffic interchange to the north. 

To address the growing demand for commercial truck parking along state highways, ADOT has developed a statewide truck parking plan that recommends expanding parking at existing rest areas and adding three new facilities.
