New westbound Interstate 10 lanes are scheduled to open by Tuesday morning between Orange Grove and Ina roads in the northwest Tucson area as part of a larger project to improve safety and traffic flow.

The $70 million project is a top 12 finalist in the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards competition, making it eligible for the Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award. You can vote for the People’s Choice Award once daily through Oct. 29.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan ahead and expect delays as westbound I-10 will be closed between US 60 and I-17 from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, to 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, for road work.

Northbound Interstate 17 will be closed at Jomax Road in north Phoenix this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 9) for ongoing pavement improvement work. Learn more here.

PHOENIX – While much of Arizona is experiencing 100-degree heat daily, the Arizona Department of Transportation is already preparing for winter.

ADOT acquired five new snowplows and held a training in Flagstaff in August to review the mechanics and technology of the equipment and provide instruction to staff on how to troubleshoot issues technicians and snowplow operators may encounter.

Comments are welcome through Friday, Sept. 6, on ADOT's proposed update to its Strategic Highway Safety Plan and a draft of the state’s first Active Transportation Safety Action Plan, which aims to reduce pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities.

The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division and the Homeless ID Project has helped more than 8,300 people get state-issued IDs in its first year at the Keys To Change campus near downtown Phoenix. Getting a state-issued ID is essential for obtaining housing, services and employment.

The Grand Canyon National Park Airport is inviting the public to attend an open house meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10, to discuss plans for a runway rehabilitation project that will result in the runway closing for about 35 days in 2025.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced the first set of awards to design, build, operate and maintain a network of privately owned electric vehicle charging stations along interstate highways.

Members of the public have until Sunday, Sept. 1, to take part in a survey that will help determine interchange locations and other design features for the Sonoran Corridor, a proposed freeway in Pima County that would link Interstates 10 and 19 south of Tucson International Airport.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to plan ahead and expect delays as southbound State Route 143 will be closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and I-10 from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, for a traffic shift.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is preparing to move forward with a project in 2025 that will reconstruct and widen Interstate 10 between Kino Parkway and Country Club Road southeast of downtown Tucson.

The Arizona Department of Transportation will postpone the removal of the westbound Interstate 10 traffic split between 32nd and 24th streets that was originally scheduled for Monday, Aug. 19. The work is associated with the Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

With the addition of the Hualapai Tribe, Phoenix Rising FC and Rotary International specialty plates, MVD now offers 104 options.

Arizonans submitted more than 2,500 entries to the Arizona Department of Transportation’s annual Safety Message Contest. Entries from that pool have been narrowed down to 10 finalists — and now it’s up to the public to select the winners. 

The southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) on-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed for approximately 60 days starting early Monday, Aug. 19 (approximately 1 a.m.). The ramp will be reconstructed as part of the ongoing freeway widening project in north Scottsdale. Learn more here.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Maricopa. The program will begin with a 30-minute open house, have a 30-minute presentation on preliminary recommendations, and then offer time for questions and comments.

The closure at Jomax Road and lane restrictions are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday and end by 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12. Drivers should plan for delays, especially from morning to early afternoon Saturday and Sunday, and may want to consider traveling through the area earlier or later.
