New eastbound Interstate 10 lanes opened early Tuesday morning between Ina and Ruthrauff roads in the northwest Tucson area as part of a widening project that will improve safety and traffic flow.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to expect delays and plan for detours as eastbound Interstate 10 will be closed between State Route 143 and Ray Road from 10 p.m. Fri., Oct. 11, to 4 a.m. Mon. Oct. 14, for paving and sign work.

To help keep traffic moving through the work zone, Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive will be closed under I-17. Eastbound Loop 303 traffic can reach northbound I-17 by taking I-17 southbound to Happy Valley Road. 

A planned traffic shift to new westbound Interstate 10 lanes at Orange Grove Road has been postponed due to a mechanical issue with lane striping equipment, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The $70 million project is a top 12 finalist in the 2024 America’s Transportation Awards competition, making it eligible for the Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award. You can vote for the People’s Choice Award once daily through Oct. 29.
