The project includes the following work:

  • Removing and replacing the top layer of pavement on north- and southbound lanes.
  • Making pavement spot repairs.
  • Applying a fog-seal pavement treatment to roadway.
  • Restriping the roadway.

Construction started this summer and will continue through late summer/early fall 2023.

What to Expect

While the project work is underway, motorists will encounter alternating lane restrictions. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained throughout construction. Drivers should plan for possible delays while the work is underway.

This advisory updates to construction schedule

As paving work resumes on State Route 89A, the Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare for lane restrictions near Glassford Hill Road in Prescott Valley from Friday, Aug. 25 through Friday, Sept. 8. The recent delay to road work was due to rainy weather conditions.

Drivers should allow for extra travel time while the following daytime restrictions are in place from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. (northbound) and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (southbound) Mondays through Saturdays.

  • SR 89A will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between the junction with SR 89 and Glassford Hill Road (mileposts 317-323).
  • The on- and off-ramps will be closed within the work zone. Law enforcement officers will be on-site to navigate drivers through the area.
  • There will be a 14-foot vehicle width restriction, and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.
  • There will be no traffic restrictions on Friday, Sept. 1.

The restrictions are needed so crews can remove and replace the existing top layer of pavement on the north- and southbound lanes.
