A digital message board on the highway encourages motorists to drive with care.

December is drawing to a close and the holidays are in full swing. Countless Arizonans are traveling to gather with family and friends, and it’s a great time to remind motorists about safe driving practices.

If you’re out on the highways this week, you may notice holiday-themed traffic safety messages on our overhead message signs leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah.

We hope that these messages engage drivers and ultimately change their behavior behind the wheel.

It’s particularly important to talk about safe driving during this time of year. In 2023, there were 9 fatal crashes over the Christmas holiday weekend, according to crash reports completed by law enforcement agencies and compiled by ADOT.

Tis the season for merrymaking and joy, but we encourage drivers to drive with care, use headlights, slow down and stay alert on the roads. Whatever you’re celebrating this holiday season, we hope you have a restful and restorative time. Drive safely!
