As we prepare to welcome 2025 and ring in the New Year, we thought we’d take one last opportunity in the waning days of 2024 to remind drivers to have a game plan for how to get home safely after the revelry of New Year’s Eve. 

On New Year’s Eve day, you might see overhead message boards displaying a traffic safety message encouraging designate a driver.

December is drawing to a close and the holidays are in full swing. Countless Arizonans are traveling to gather with family and friends, and it’s a great time to remind motorists about safe driving practices.

If you’re out on the highways this week, you may notice holiday-themed traffic safety messages on our overhead message signs leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah. 

We hope that these messages engage drivers and ultimately change their behavior behind the wheel.

Child safety seats and seat belts not only save lives and increase safety for little ones, but child safety seats are required by Arizona law. Children younger than 8 years old and shorter than 4 feet, 9 inches, must be properly secured in a safety or booster seat.

Cheer on the Badgers, Wolves, Falcons, Jaguars, Prospectors, Rattlers or whatever mascot reps your favorite school. That’s right, school is back so cheer for your favorite team as part of the school spirit.

Get in the school spirit, and make sure to stop completely for school buses when the bus is stopped with its lights flashing and stop sign arm extended.

PHOENIX – Perhaps you’ve seen the acrophobia-inducing public service announcements on TV? Maybe heard the rattlesnake’s rattle and hiss while listening to Pandora? Or saw one man distracting a one-ton bull in social media posts, all in the name of preventing distracted driving?

Three months after the Arizona Department of Transportation launched its distracted driving awareness campaign “Distracted Drivers Terrify Me,” aimed at reducing the number of people engaging in distracting behaviors while driving, the public outreach effort is still going strong.
