A digital message board on the highway encourages motorists to designate a driver.

It’s Thanksgiving and that means gathering with friends and family over the holiday weekend. Here at ADOT, we want you to make it to your destination safely.

If you’re out on Arizona highways over the holiday weekend, you may see our overhead signs displaying traffic safety messages encouraging drivers to go easy on the speed, drive with care and designate a driver. We put up these messages to help start important conversations about traffic safety, and ultimately help influence driver behavior so we all make better decisions behind the wheel.

In 2024, there were 10 fatal crashes and 4 alcohol-related crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend that resulted in 10 fatalities, according to crash reports compiled by ADOT. Crashes don’t just happen. They’re the result of choices. But thankfully, we can all choose to drive safer on our roadways.

Enjoy pumpkin pie, turkey, mashed potatoes and more over Thanksgiving! Drive safe, Arizona.
