What is Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet?

What Do I Need to Use Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet?
Requirements:
- Have a valid Arizona Driver License or State-issued identification card.
- Download the Arizona Wallet app on your smartphone.
Is my Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet Valid in Other States?
Arizona Wallet is accepted anywhere that utilizes the international standard for mDL.
Mobile Driver Licenses (mDLs) are primarily used at participating TSA airport security checkpoints, for age verification at some bars, restaurants, & stores, and for specific state services (such as MVD services) in states that issue mDLs (e.g., Arizona, Colorado, Maryland).
You should still carry your physical ID as mDL acceptance is still growing and is not currently universal.
How is my information protected?
- With Arizona Wallet, you're in control of the information you share with digital verifiers for state services or other businesses. Arizona Wallet will never share any of the information from your wallet with a digital verifier unless you approve it.
- Arizona cannot track where or when you use your mDL – with the exception of using your mDL to verify your identity for online services in AZ MVD Now.
- Arizona Wallet will not add any credentials to your wallet without first verifying that you are the one requesting it. You will need to pass our secure identity verification process before we begin to issue you any state credentials.
- All personal information for state credentials in Arizona Wallet is safe-guarded with biometric authentication (face or fingerprint) so only you can view your sensitive information.
Is There a Charge to Use Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet?
No, the app is free to download and use. The app will never charge you for use of your Arizona Mobile Driver License or State ID.
Is Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet the Same as mID?
No. The MID app and the Arizona Wallet app are two different apps.
Do I need to have a Real ID to Add my Arizona ID to Arizona Wallet?
No, you are not required to have an Arizona Real ID, to add your Mobile Driver License or State ID to Arizona Wallet.
However, please note that effective May 7, 2025, only a REAL ID compliant credential such as the Arizona Travel ID (driver license or ID card), a U.S. passport or other federally approved identification will be accepted at TSA airport security checkpoints for domestic travel. See Acceptable Identification at the TSA Checkpoint for more information.
Note: Rules for international travel are unchanged, and a valid passport or equivalent will be required to travel outside the United States.
Does my Mobile Driver License or State ID replace my physical license?
No, a Mobile Driver License or State ID is not a replacement for a physical ID. A Mobile Driver License or State ID can only be used in select instances that require ID presentation. You should continue to carry your physical Driver License/State ID as a form of identification.
Can I get the app on Android or iPhone?
Yes. The Arizona Wallet app is available for iOS and Android mobile devices.
Adding my Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet
How Do I Add My Driver License or State ID to Arizona Wallet?
- Download the Arizona Wallet app from the Apple App Store or Google Play
- Open the Arizona Wallet app on your mobile device; complete any necessary setup and allow the necessary permissions
- Tap the ‘Add to Wallet’ button on the home screen
- Select ‘Driver License or State ID’ from the list of card types
- Follow the instructions provided to scan your physical Driver License/State ID, perform a face scan, and submit your request.
Once ADOT MVD approves your request, your Mobile Driver License or State ID will be available to use in the Arizona Wallet.
How many Driver Licenses or State IDs can I add to Arizona Wallet?
One (1) Arizona Driver License or Arizona State ID can be added to Arizona Wallet per mobile phone.
Do I need a physical ID card to add a Mobile Driver License or State ID to Arizona Wallet?
Yes. You are required to scan the front and back of your current physical Driver License or State ID as part of the process.
Managing My Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet
How do I remove my Mobile Driver License or State ID from Arizona Wallet?
Open the Arizona Wallet app. Select the card you wish to remove. Click on the info icon in the top right corner of the screen. At the bottom of the screen, select the ‘Remove’ button. Confirm that you would like to remove the card and all associated data from the Arizona Wallet.
I removed my Arizona Driver License or State ID from Arizona Wallet. How do I get it back?
You will re-add the ID by performing the same steps you initially took to add it.
Where can I view the details of my Mobile Driver License or State ID?
Open the Arizona Wallet app. Select the card you’d like to view. Click on the info icon in the top right corner of the screen. On the info page, click ‘Driver License or State ID info’. Authenticate with your Face ID or Fingerprint. You should then be able to view your credential details.
If my information changes, how will my Mobile Driver License or State ID get updated?
If your information changes – such as your address, name, or credential photo – ADOT MVD will automatically update your mobile credential.
What should I do if I misplace or lose the device with my Arizona Driver License or State ID added to Arizona Wallet?
You can disable and re-enable any Mobile IDs on your customer account on AZ MVD Now. You may also Contact MVD to disable or re-enable your Mobile credentials.
Using Arizona ID in Arizona Wallet
How do I use my mobile Driver License or State ID?
At participating airport TSA checkpoints, you have two options to present your Mobile ID at a TSA identity reader:
NFC tap: This feature is currently only available on Android devices. To present your Mobile ID using NFC, tap your phone near the TSA identity machine's NFC reader. When you have done this successfully, your phone will display the information requested by the TSA identity reader. Authenticate via Fingerprint or Face ID to confirm and share your mobile Driver License or State ID information with the TSA identify reader.
QR Code: To present your ID via QR code, open the Arizona Wallet app. Select the card you’d like to present. Tap on the QR code icon in the top right corner of the screen. You can scan this QR code on the TSA identity machine's QR code reader.
Note: Currently, a mobile Driver License or State ID can only be used at select TSA checkpoints in select airports in participating states. Please visit the TSA Digital ID site for the most up to date information on TSA acceptance.
You should continue to carry your physical Driver License or State ID as a form of identification. Some TSA checkpoints may require you to present additional identifying information (i.e., certain TSA checkpoints may also capture your image to compare it to the one on your mobile ID).
