Communication Accommodations

Communication Accommodations

A Communication Accommodation is a digital indicator you can add to your customer record and/or vehicle records. This voluntary indicator alerts law enforcement that you may need additional time or assistance to communicate during interactions.

What Is a Communication Accommodation?

If you have a disability that affects how you communicate, you can add a Communication Accommodation indicator to your MVD records. This helps law enforcement understand that you may respond differently during traffic stops or other interactions.

Important: This indicator is completely voluntary and confidential. Only law enforcement can see it—it won't appear on your Motor Vehicle Record, driver license, or ID card.

How It Works

Vehicle Record Indicator

When you add the indicator to your vehicle record, it shows that someone in the vehicle may need a communication accommodation. When law enforcement runs your Arizona license plate or VIN, "Communication Accommodation" appears on their screen.

Customer Record Indicator

When you add the indicator to your customer record, it shows that you need a communication accommodation. When law enforcement runs your identification card or driver license number, "Communication Accommodation" appears on their screen.

Adding or Removing the Indicator

You can add or remove the Communication Accommodation indicator at no charge.
