Communication Accommodations
Communication Accommodations
Individuals can voluntarily choose to add digital indicators to their vehicle or customer record to notate a need for a "communication accommodation" due to any developmental or acquired disability that may affect their ability to communicate effectively.
The addition of the indicator to the vehicle or customer records will only be visible to law enforcement. The indicator will not be displayed on the Motor Vehicle Record, driver license, or ID card.
The digital indicator to their vehicle record will indicate that someone in the vehicle requires a “communication accommodation”. When law enforcement queries a vehicle record by running the Arizona license plate or VIN, the return will display “Communication Accommodation” on their screen.
The digital indicator to their customer record (identification card or driver license) will indicate they need a “Communication Accommodation”. When law enforcement queries an identification card or driver license record, the customer’s added indicator will be included in the return.
Individuals who wish to add the Communication Accommodation indicator to their vehicle or driver record will be able to do so through their AZMVDNow.gov account or by visiting any AZ MVD office. There is no charge to add or remove the characteristic from their record(s).
The Blue Envelope program is also available.
