Repair work underway on US 160 east of Kayenta

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation has begun critical repair work on US 160 near Dennehotso after the roadway sustained significant damage from storms on Sept. 16. 

Following inspections, work began this week, under a contract allowing for urgently needed repairs, with the goal of restoring two lanes of travel on US 160 by early October. This schedule could be affected by weather, but ADOT’s goal is to reopen the highway as soon as possible.

The repairs include drainage improvements, roadway reconstruction, new pavement and asphalt, and new striping for approximately 80 feet of damaged roadway sections to US 160 at milepost 420 near Dennehotso. 

Following heavy rain in the area on Sept. 16, US 160 sustained significant damage east of Dennehotso near Laguna Wash at milepost 420 and was closed for the safety of motorists. Eastbound US 160 remains closed at Navajo Route 59 (milepost 402) and westbound is closed at the US 160/US 191 junction (milepost 435).

ADOT advises motorists to plan for extra travel time and seek an alternative route until repairs are complete.
