It’s a super day (to designate a driver)

No matter what team you’re rooting for in the Super Bowl (or maybe you’re just waiting for the halftime show), we want to remind drivers to have a plan to get home safely after the game is over. 

If you’re out on Arizona highways on Sunday, you may notice a traffic safety message encouraging motorists to designate a driver on overhead message signs.

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Hopi Tribe, has completed the State Route 264 Corridor Planning Study. 

The purpose of the corridor study was to identify improvements that need to be made along 96 miles of SR 264 from Moenkopi to the Navajo-Apache County line (mileposts 322-418). The study makes short- and long-term recommendations to improve the highway by:

  • Assessing existing conditions

  • Completing and reviewing historical crash data

  • Performing road safety audits

  • Gathering input from tribal leaders and community members

While the study identifies needs along the highway corridor, funding still needs to be identified and secured in order to implement these recommended improvements.

ADOT thanks all community members for their participation and involvement in the study.

Plan for overnight lane restrictions on Western Avenue/Target Range Road in Nogales beginning July 27

Daily lane restrictions will continue on I-19

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers traveling on east- and westbound Western Avenue/Target Range Road at the Interstate 19 Western Avenue Interchange in Nogales to expect lane restrictions from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday, July 27, ending Friday, Aug. 28, as work on the bridges rehabilitation project continues.

The following restrictions will occur Monday through Thursday:

  • Flagging operations will direct east- and westbound motorists on Western Avenue/Target Range Road through a single lane, one direction at a time. Drivers should be prepared to come to a complete stop and expect delays. 
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph while the flagging operation is in place. 

REMINDER: North- and southbound lane restrictions on I-19 between mileposts 1-1.17 continue daily 24/7 through September. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph. 

Drivers should allow extra travel time, use caution, be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Project Cost: $8.4 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation is currently working on a shoulder-widening project along State Route 377 between Heber-Overgaard and Holbrook. The 5-mile-long project begins at milepost 8, about 13 miles north of Heber-Overgaard, and ends at milepost 13.

I-10 Marana to Cortaro Roads Traffic Circulation Study

The Arizona Department of Transportation is conducting a traffic circulation study along Interstate 10 within Pima County. The objective of this study will determine the best and most cost-effective options for reducing traffic delays and congestion on Interstate 10 at Marana Road and Cortaro Road including all intersections in between.
