North-South Corridor (SR 505): Proposed New Transportation Route in Pinal County
North-South Corridor (SR 505): Proposed New Transportation Route in Pinal County
Overview
The North-South Corridor (State Route 505) is a 55-mile planned future transportation route in Pinal County that would stretch from US 60 in Apache Junction to Interstate 10 near Eloy, and pass through the town of Queen Creek, city of Coolidge, town of Florence and portions of unincorporated Pinal County.
The North-South Corridor is also proposed to connect with the future extension of SR 24.
The North-South Corridor route was selected in 2021 in the final Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Record of Decision (ROD), which identified a 1,500-foot-wide North-South corridor route. View more information on the Tier 1 EIS Study.
Additional Tier 2 environmental and engineering studies are underway to refine the corridor to a proposed 400-foot freeway alignment and identify the location of interchanges and other design features. ADOT has divided the North-South Corridor into two separate study areas for these Tier 2 studies:

Currently, there is no timeline to build any portion of the North-South Corridor, as there is no funding identified for design, right-of-way or construction.
The purpose of the North-South Corridor is to address current and future transportation needs in Pinal County, improve regional connectivity and provide an additional connection through a growing area of Pinal County.
A continuous, access-controlled north-to-south transportation corridor would:
- Improve access to future activity centers
- Improve regional mobility
- Improve north-to-south connectivity
- Integrate the region’s transportation network
- Address existing and future population and employment growth
- Provide an alternative to avoid congestion on I-10
