Loop 303: State Route 30 to Hassayampa Freeway Study

Loop 303: State Route 30 to Hassayampa Freeway Study

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are conducting a study and environmental overview to identify and evaluate the most feasible transportation corridor / river crossing for the future extension of Loop 303 between the proposed State Route 30 and Hassayampa Freeway. The proposed corridor could be located within the city of Goodyear and unincorporated sections of Maricopa County.

The proposed Loop 303 extension may include four travel lanes, a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction and a new Gila River crossing. The Loop 303 corridor may ultimately connect to Maricopa Association of Governments' proposed Hassayampa Freeway.

An initial analysis identified five possible river-crossing alternatives for the Loop 303 from the west of Tuthill Road bridge to Cotton Lane.

Based on a preliminary review of aerial photography, current land uses, topography and an inventory of engineering and environmental constraints, three of the river crossings are not recommended for further study: Alternatives 1, 2 and 4.

Two proposed alternatives, Alternative 3 (Perryville Road / Rainbow Valley Road) and Alternative 5 (Cotton Lane), have been recommended for additional detailed study. After a preliminary Gila River crossing alternative is identified based on agency and public input for this study, further detailed engineering and environmental studies will occur.

Feasibility Study Update: March 4, 2015

The project team continues to work on the feasibility report. Although it was initially indicated that this report could be completed in late summer 2012, currently there is no time frame for when the feasibility report will be finalized. However, once complete, the final report will be posted to this project website.
