US 60 Corridor Study (State Route 74 to Wickenburg)

US 60 Corridor Study (State Route 74 to Wickenburg)

Overview

The purpose of the US 60 Corridor Study was to identify and evaluate improvement alternatives on US 60 between mileposts 111 and 120, and to recommend feasible solutions to improve safety and ease of travel on this stretch of the highway. US 60 serves as Wickenburg’s principal connection to the Phoenix metropolitan area. An increase in through traffic, along with increased local traffic that uses US 60, is contributing to congestion and safety concerns for the route.

Public Involvement/Outreach

The corridor study solicited input from a broad range of stakeholders. The public involvement program will feature two phases of outreach:

Phase 1 – Scoping. A survey was completed to gather input on the corridor. The survey (distributed to homes and business within the corridor limits and advertised through various means including email, press release, radio and print advertising) received over 180 responses. Survey results are reported in the US 60 Corridor Study.

Phase 2 – Presentation of findings and draft recommendations. The study findings and recommendations will be presented during regularly scheduled Town and/or County meetings.

Study Process

US 60 Corridor Study recommendations were developed for consideration and advancement to ADOT’s Strategic Corridor Program. The study process resulted in three documents that provide the study recommendations, including:

Traffic and Safety Analysis Report – discusses the analysis of traffic operations and safety of potential alternatives to increase capacity and improve operation of this stretch of the highway.

Environmental Overview – identifies issues for consideration in the future evaluation of alternatives and the design of improvements. The Environmental Overview identifies information needed to meet National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements for the recommended improvements.

Final Corridor Study – summarizes the Traffic and Safety Analysis Report, Environmental Overview, and Public Involvement Summary report, and includes an implementation plan for use in potential future programming.

The Final Corridor Study also contains illustrative descriptions of recommended improvements and cost estimates for implementation.
