Overview

Project Cost: $12 million

The Grand Canyon National Airport has successfully completed its $12 million runway rehabilitation project - on time with minimal disruption. Over the course of two months  project crews:

  • Rehabilitated the 8,999-foot runway with a three-inch mill and overaly.
  • Reconfigured and rehabilitated the taxiway intersections at the end of Runway 21 to eliminate a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified hotspot.
  • Updated the taxiway nomenclature (signage) for the entire airfield to meet current FAA standards.
  • Modified aircraft parking apron, including painting of the green no-taxi island.

What's Ahead

Final Touches Ahead:
The runway project is finished, aside from final touch ups. Crews will return the week of October 6 to complete pavement marking touch-ups on Taxiway A, including holding position markings. This work will be performed under escort, and a work-in-progress
NOTAM will be issued. No operational impacts are expected.

Project Cost:

With the support of the FAA’s awarded federal grant, now is the opportune time to undertake this project. The estimated construction cost is approximately $12 million. 

The project will be funded by a Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant, along with state matching funds.
