Eastbound Interstate 40 Pavement Project: Fort Rock Road to Markham Wash Bridge

Project Cost: $20.7 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation has initiated a project to replace the top-riding surface along a 16-mile section of eastbound Interstate 40 between Fort Rock Road and Markham Wash Bridge, west of Seligman (mileposts 92-108). The project is located in both Mohave and Yavapai counties.

Work includes:

  • Milling and paving the eastbound lanes, including the existing bridge decks.
  • Installing new guardrail.
  • New pavement markings and other related work.

 

What to expect during construction

Construction activities will begin with removing and replacing the existing guardrail within the project boundaries. This work is scheduled to begin in early 2024. Paving is scheduled to take place during spring and summer 2024.

  • I-40 will be reduced to one lane only for eastbound travel during guardrail replacement and paving work. 
  • Divers need to be prepared to slow down in the work zone and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the restrictions are in place.
  • Width restriction is 14 feet.

 

Project Schedule

The project is scheduled to begin in early 2024 and be completed in fall 2024. Traffic restrictions will be limited to the daytime hours of 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday mornings.

Schedules are subject to change on weather and other unforeseen factors.
