Traffic Alerts: I-40 Andy Devine Ave. Bridge Deck Replacement
I-40: Andy Devine Avenue Bridge Deck Replacement construction activity starts March 13
Drivers should use caution and allow extra travel time
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Kingman-area drivers on Interstate 40 to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time when construction begins to replace the bridge deck on the westbound I-40 Andy Devine Avenue Bridge (Exit 53) in east Kingman. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, March 20.
Construction crews will begin mobilizing equipment and materials in the work zone next week, but there will be no traffic impacts during this time.
Construction will be completed in two phases in order to maintain traffic on I-40. Temporary travel lanes will be built to enable motorists to drive around the construction zone. The I-40 off- and on-ramps at Andy Devine Avenue will remain open during construction.
Beginning Monday, March 20, the following restrictions will be in place
- Around-the-clock lane restrictions throughout construction.
- Delays of up to 15 minutes.
- Reduced speed limit in the work zone.
The restrictions are needed for construction crews to safely complete the bridge deck project, which includes:
- Replacing the existing bridge deck on the westbound Andy Devine Avenue Bridge.
- Replacing the bridge bearings, approach slabs, deck joint and bridge-mounted sign structure.
- Milling and paving the roadway, replacing curb and gutter, and removing and replacing traffic-control crossovers.
- Replacing guardrail and catch basins.
- Installing new signage, striping and other related work.
ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around personnel and equipment while construction is underway.
Construction is scheduled to be completed this fall. For additional information, visit the project website.
