Interstate 40: Topock - Needle Mountain Road Pavement Preservation
The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a construction project this spring to replace pavement along 2.5 miles of Interstate 40 between the California state line at Topock and the Needle Mountain traffic interchange (mileposts 0 to 2).
Project Overview
Work includes removing the existing top layer of pavement and replacing it with new pavement. The project also includes making spot pavement repairs, replacing pavement markings and other related work.
What to expect during construction
Work will begin at the Arizona side of the I-40 Colorado River Bridge and continue approximately 2 miles to just west of the Needle Mountain Road traffic interchange (Exit 2).
Lane restrictions will be limited to overnight hours only and will not be in place during daytime hours or weekends. Business access will be maintained at all times during construction.
The restrictions include:
- Intermittent overnight lane restrictions on east- and westbound I-40 from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. from Sunday evenings through Friday mornings.
- One lane will remain open in both directions through the work zone. Motorists should be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes.
- The speed limit will be reduced in the work zones.
ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the following restrictions are in place.
