Mohave County Northern Avenue roadway improvement project is underway

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Western Arizona Council of Governments and Mohave County, advises motorists to plan for ongoing daytime lane restrictions and brief travel delays on Northern Avenue between Stockton Hill and Castle Rock roads, as work gets underway on a road-improvement project.

Construction will first take place on the northern segment of Northern Avenue between Stockton Hill Road and Glen Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays from Monday, Feb. 24, through Tuesday, April 1:

Northern Avenue will be narrowed to one lane in each direction within the work zone.
Drivers should be prepared to slow down and expect brief delays.
Business access will be maintained while the restrictions are in place.

The work will include removing and replacing the existing driveways and pouring concrete sidewalks.

Overview

Project Cost: $5,848,155

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Western Arizona Council of Governments and Mohave County, started a construction project in February 2025 to provide roadway improvements on Northern Avenue between Stockton Hill and Castle Rock roads.

Project elements include:

Pouring concrete sidewalks and driveways between Stockton Hill and Castle Rock roads.
Replacing pavement markings, installing a new traffic signal video detection camera and other related work.

What to expect during construction

Lane restrictions will be in place throughout construction.
Construction activities will take place primarily during the daytime; some nighttime work may be necessary.
The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
Construction-related noise.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, and slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment while roadway restrictions are in place.

Project Schedule

April 21 - May 12: Construction will take place on the northern segment, between Bank Street and Castle Rock Road.
Beginning April 28: Preparing the subgrade for the new sidewalk at the northern and southern segments, between Van Nuys Road and Bank Street.

Work includes demolishing the existing curb and driveways and preparing the subgrade for the new sidewalk.

Work is scheduled to be completed in spring 2026.

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
