The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on US 93 near the community of Wikieup to continue to expect daytime restrictions and extended delays this week along a 10-mile section of the highway.

The following restrictions are currently in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today (Tuesday, April 23) through Thursday, April 25:

  • US 93 is intermittently narrowed to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between Cedar Mine and Wikieup Hills roads (mileposts 120 to 130).
  • Drivers should plan for extended delays and be prepared to come to a complete stop when approaching and driving through the work zone.
  • Flaggers and a pilot car will assist drivers through the work zone. 
  • A 16-foot vehicle width restriction is in place, and the speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

The project elements include:

  • Removing the top layer of the riding surface and replacing it with new pavement.
  • Making spot pavement repairs, applying new pavement markings and other related work. 

ADOT reminds drivers to watch for construction personnel and equipment while construction is underway.

Project Cost: $4.3 million

The Arizona Department of Transportation has started a construction project to remove and replace the top riding surface along a 10-mile section of US 93. The pavement project is located between Gunsite Canyon Road and Gray Wash in the community of Wikieup (mileposts 120 to 130).

Work includes:

  • Removing the existing top layer of pavement and replacing it with new pavement.
  • Making spot pavement repairs, applying new pavement markings and other related work.

 

What to expect during construction

  • Work will occur from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. 
  • Intermittent north- and southbound lane restrictions.
  • On-site flaggers and a pilot car will assist with traffic control when lane restrictions are in place.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
  • Construction-related noise.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

 

Project Schedule 

Work is scheduled to begin in spring 2024 and be completed in summer 2024. Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
