Drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for ramp closures and lane restrictions along Interstate 10 in Tonopah.

The following I-10 ramp closures at Wintersburg Road (Exit 98) will occur from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18. 

Note: Ramps will not be closed at the same time. Only one direction will be closed at a time. 

  • The eastbound on- and off-ramps will be closed. Detour: Off-ramp traffic can detour east to Hassayampa Road (Exit 103), then north to Indian School Road to access Wintersburg Road. On-ramp traffic can detour north to Indian School Road, then east to Hassayampa Road to access I-10.
  • The westbound on- and off-ramps will be closed. Detour: Off-ramp traffic can detour west to 411th Avenue (Exit 94), then north to Indian School Road, then east to access Wintersburg Road. On-ramp traffic can detour north to Indian School Road, then west to 411th Avenue to access I-10.

The following lane restrictions will occur between 443rd Avenue (milepost 90) and Wintersburg Road (milepost 100) from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m on Monday, Sept. 18.:

  • Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane. 

The following alternating lane restrictions will occur between Old Camp Wash (milepost 95) and milepost 97 weekdays from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 18, and ending, Friday, Sept. 29.

  • Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane. 
  • Westbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane. 
  • A 14-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place. 
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph. 

Contractors are scheduled to pave the road and install guardrails.

Drivers should plan for delays, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are repairing the pavement on Interstate 10 between 443rd Avenue (milepost 90) and Winterburg Road (near milepost 100).

The work consists of removing the existing pavement surface and replacing it with new asphalt concrete. Additional work includes removing and replacing the existing guardrail and pavement markings.

Project Area

The project is located in Maricopa County. Construction will occur on Interstate 10 between 443rd Avenue (milepost 90) Winterburg Road (near milepost 100). 

What to Expect

The project is scheduled to begin early spring 2023 with completion anticipated in winter 2023.

To minimize traffic impacts, night work is scheduled to occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays. Drivers are asked to use caution, obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices and use caution around construction personnel and equipment.
